ICANN Transfer Rules

What’s Transfer Hold?

1. A Dotcom, “.com” domain purchase gets a ICANN mandatory 60-day transfer lock (hold) applied. Thus if possible/option it’s best to transfer the new domain name to your preferred registrar. Save added transfer wait times and multiple registrar account.

2. Transferring an existing Dotcom, “.com” between registrars gets a ICANN mandatory 60-day transfer lock (hold) applied. The purpose of this lock prevents you/someone from transferring your domain to another registrar within 60 days of the transfer date.

3. In your new/existing Registrar situations, you should still be able to update your nameservers, DNS records, and contact information.  Some Registrar DNS process is easier than others.
